Great Progress until the parts don't fit
The transmission guy reassembled the overdrive and created a fixture for checking it out of the car. Here's a picture of the fixture, using a drill motor to spin the transmission to generate oil pressure:
Then here's the video of the test itself. The overdrive was confirmed to work, which you can detect by the increasing speed depicted by the flapping business card on the output:
The transmission guy wanted to also replace the front oil seal and gasket. In order to replace those parts he needed to remove the clutch operating shaft. The shaft and it's fork are connected by a bolt that would not come out. So he ended up cutting out the old lever and fork. Here's the new parts:
The new parts don't line up correctly! This picture tells the story. The gap between the two pins on the fork should be the same on both sides of the round portion of the transmission. As you can see by the drill pits wedged into place, the gap is not the same. About 0.080 inch different.
Moss motors is now checking their parts in inventory to see which part has the error. We could modify the parts and make it work. But if we screw it up, then Moss will not take the parts back. And these parts require transmission removal to access them. So we wait.
Meantime, we have finished the rear portion of the interior and the two side pcs at the front:
You can also see the new clutch attached to the flywheel. Once the transmission goes in, then the remaining couple of pieces of carpet and the seats get installed.
You can also see in the above pictures we have the passenger side door installed. Still need it's door card though. Leaving the driver's door off for now to get more clearance for transmission.
We then tackled the hood installation. Overall this went well, we had to repair one of the hinges which worked fine plus install the prop rod. But then we tackled the latch mechanism. We had read this was a bear to adjust, and they were right. The original position of the spring loaded latch rods was completely unknown. We have left the headlights out so we can reach in through those openings to release the hood when it inevitably gets stuck in the locked position. We spent about 3 hours "fettling" these two latches - one side would release but the other would not. Each time it stuck required reaching back in through the headlight opening and unscrewing the spring/rod mechanism to free up the hood again. Here's the picture when we finally got it right:

So we are getting very close and need Moss Motors to resolve their parts issues. We normally order Moss parts through Little British Car Company, but we wanted these parts here quickly. They did arrive quickly, and cost us about 12% more then LBC price. But the good news is at least we can deal directly with Moss on the parts issue and not suffer the delay or going through LBC with a Moss parts issue.
